The La Porte Police Department announced the renewal of their city-sponsored Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) for fiscal year 2011-2012. The project's primary goal is keeping motorists safe who travel along area roadways. As an added feature, the department is seeking entry into TXDOT's Impaired Driving Mobilization grant program, targeting DWI offenders, and also intends to re-engage in TXDOT’s S.T.E.P. & Click it or Ticket campaigns when the future period arrives.
Such traffic programs are designed to reduce both motor vehicle accidents and the residual effects incurred by motorists. Both the City and TXDOT’s S.T.E.P. programs have proven to reduce injuries, fatalities and property damage along major thoroughfares and high-collision/high-density intersections. Residents are reminded to drive safely, while taking comfort in knowing additional traffic enforcement officers are monitoring local roadways in an effort to increase the level of safety.
