Marcus began his career with the La Porte Police Department in 1998 after serving 4 years with Harris County Constables Office Pct. 8. After working patrol for several years, he joined the Traffic division as a commercial vehicle inspector. Several years later he joined the Support Services Division as a CPA coordinator, TCOLE instructor and event coordinator. In 2007, Marcus promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the Dispatch and Records Division. As a Sergeant, he has been assigned to the Support Services Division, Patrol and Traffic. In January of 2020, Marcus promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.
Marcus is currently a board member with La Porte Police Officer’s Association, Meet and Confer committee and was recently elected as the Region 6 Executive Director with CLEAT. He has received several awards from the police department including Chief’s Commendations and Chief’s Award of Merit. In 2014, Marcus was named the CLEAT Region 6 Officer of the Year. Marcus has served on a local non-profit organization whose focus is providing items to service members who are currently deployed overseas.
Marcus has been married to Alicia since 1993. Dr. Upchurch is the principal at the James H. Baker 6th grade campus in La Porte. They have one daughter, Lizzie who recently graduated from the Art Institute of Houston with a Culinary Degree. She is a chef at the River Oaks Country Club.
