After The Storm Information - Community Resources

GARBAGE/TRASH: The Public Works Department has resumed the regular residential garbage schedule. We can encourage you to begin removing debris from your home.  The City will begin picking up debris tomorrow, September 6th, in heavy trash collection zones 3 and 4.  Click here to view the heavy trash collection zones.

We ask that you do not park on the street during debris pick-up days.  Our workers need access to get their equipment down the streets for debris removal operations.  Parking on the street or in a cul-de-sac may prevent debris from being picked up on your street.  As a reminder, debris should be loose and not bagged.  If you have placed any debris in black trash bags, please open the bags so the debris is visible to workers.  Remember to keep residential garbage separate from your storm-related debris.  Also, debris should be separated by the following categories: vegetative, such as trees and limbs, construction and demolition debris, appliances and white goods, and electronics.  Mixed debris will not be picked up by the City.  Visit www.laportetx.gov for more information.

DAMAGES: FEMA is making assistance available to those that were impacted by the storm. To register for FEMA assistance, visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

City staff are conducting assessments of damaged property throughout the city. If you have sustained any damage to your home or business as a result of the storm, we encourage you to report this to your insurance provider as soon as possible. We also ask you to report damages to the City at www.laportetx.gov/damagereport.

REGISTERED CONTRACTORS: As you plan for home repairs, please make sure your contractor is on file with the City. The Planning & Development Department reviews all contractors to ensure they have a current Certificate of Insurance for Liability. In the aftermath of a natural disaster, we often hear reports of people being victimized.

REGISTERED CONTRACTOR LISTS: We urge you to do your research and check these lists: Demolition Contractors; Building Contractors; Plumbing Contractors; Electrical Contractors; Mechanical Contractors.
